More Ideas from Dollar Stretcher.....

Special Pancake Jug

My husband recently bought a shake and pour pancake jug. I thought it was pretty cool, but the price was not so cool. When I was using it, I realized I could just save the jug and refill with my own pancake mix. I get the ease of shake and pour at a fraction of the cost. Lynne in Indiana

Little Luxuries - The Free DVD Store

At work, we made a list of DVDs and videos that each of us have. Rather than rent from the video store or go out for a night at the movies, we borrow from each other. Kim

Check the Tax First

We had purchased "newer" used cars and were hit with personal property tax bill of over $800 the next year! I have an older used car that runs great and costs me less than a hundred dollars annually in personal property tax. It would be wise for a person to check into property taxes before buying even a used car. Kellie A.

editor's note: Each state taxes cars differently. Kellie makes a good point. You need to know your state's taxes and keep them in mind when shopping for a newer vehicle.

Swapping DVDs is a great idea. Those $1 Redbox rentals are a good buy too. My hubby likes using those.
I've never used a shake and pour pancake batter. I'll have to look into that and rig something up.
We bought two used cars for our kids to have while away at college. The cost of the cars was not a huge amount, but when we transferred title at the CA DMV, it was a HUGE shocker!!! It made me sick to my stomach to pay over $700 to simply transfer title. My daughter drove her car cross country to college and my son stayed in CA to attend school. I'm still angry over how much it cost. CA has skyrocketing taxes and fees. It is ridiculous!

I hope you're having a good weekend, Lucy!

Well JD, California's decision to take care of everyone has cost them. They are on the brink and have to raise taxes somehow.
Lucy, great stuff here, all of it. The taxes vary so much on cars state by state. The property tax is the reason I always buy a car with about 50 to 80 K on it. The taxes are negligible.

Let's see . . . my son and I went down to the hearing board yesterday to see if we could get his assessment reduced on the house he just bought. I designated some of my United Way dollars to support the local food pantry. We are thinking about buying a new car to take advantage of the deals. Our old car makes more noise driving down the road than a haunted house on Halloween.

So we're doing what we can.
